I recommend Parenting With Love and Logic to every single parent I ever talk to, and I buy a copy for anyone I'm close to when they have their first child. The principles here have guided me as I've raised my own children, and I've never seen a child raised on Love and Logic principles go permanently off the rails (even though a key component to the approach is allowing room for mistakes, even big ones.)
The Gift of Failure // Jessica Lahey |****| There are many books about the damage wrought by over-involved parenting, but this is the first one I've read that's organized this well, along with short, practical "Do this, not that" suggestions at the end of each chapter. Well worth a read for parents, no matter your child's age.
Not specifically on parenting, but this great piece on grade inflation from Thomas Fordham Institute is worth your time, as it may help you explain to your kids that the most challenging teachers are often the ones doing them the biggest favor.
KQED has a great post on helping teens and tweens navigate social media.
