I've been working my way through Daniel Silva's series of Gabriel Allon novels, and the fifth entry was another capable installment, even if not as great as the first few.
On the other hand, the Reacher series seems to be taking consistent steps backwards since Lee Child began porting much of the creation over to his brother Andrew. "In Too Deep" continues this trend. It's hard to put my finger on precisely what's wrong, but in general I think the dialogue is less punchy, the novels move more slowly recently, and the general feel is just a bit sloppy overall.
Either way, both were pleasant diversions and worth a read, even if they're not quite exemplars of capable authors at the top of their game.
