The second book of the year was an interesting premise with subpar execution.
"The White Guy Dies First" has a unique setup, and I was pretty optimistic opening it up. Thirteen different stories from different authors, all built around intentionally denying a basic trope of older horror movies.
It did not deliver. Two of the stories were pretty good, two were alright, and the rest felt like stories custom-built to be shoehorned around cultural sermons, rather than sociological points made in the service of a story.
If you like YA horror, it's probably worth picking up just for the few bright points. If you don't, or if you find overly preachy writing untenable, best to avoid.
